The body is made from 3mm thick sheet steel, phosphate coated and EPC painted in textured black as standard. The phosphate coating carries a 5 year conditional guarantee against rust. The diffuser is made from 9.5mm thick clear GE Lexan Margard, which is virtually indestructible and can withstand repeated blows from hammers and picks. Behind the diffuser is either an opal or prismatic 3mm GE Lexan Polycarbonate panel to produce the required light control. This sandwich is held into a 5mm thick ?T? section solid steel frame and gasketted to prevent ingress of both water and dust to IP65. The frame is secured to the body with snake-eye stainless steel countersunk high security bolts. The geartray is removable and acts as a reflector. It is made from mild steel and finished with an EPC coat in white. Versions are available using the Philips QL induction lamps have an average rated maintenance period of up to 60,000 hours, or 15 years at 4,000 hours per year. All luminaires in this range are designed to comply with BS EN 60598 and are suitable for operating in interior and exterior applications. Each luminaire also complies with European Directive 89/336/EEC and carries the CE mark. The unique design ensures that all versions are virtually unbreakable and are therefore suited to highly volatile areas where vandalism is prevalent. Such areas could be: Prisons and high security areas Pedestrian subways Bus station public areas Circulation areas in high rise council buildings Public conveniences Public areas in parks Security lighting applications Public areas of Local Authority buildings Maintenance For best results do not use abrasives or highly alkaline cleaners on the fittings. Do not use squeegees, razor blades or other sharp instruments. Do not clean the diffuser in hot sun or elevated temperatures. To remove labels, stickers etc., from the diffuser the use of kerosene, naphtha or white spirit is generally effective. After cleaning a final warm wash should be made using a mild soap solution and ending with a thorough rinse with cold water. Wipe off surface moisture from metalwork. Generally speaking, if the luminaires operate only in the hours of darkness, a re-lamping and cleaning programme every 12 months to 25 years is advisable depending on which type of lamp is used. Standards All luminaires in the BATTALION range are designed and manufactured in accordance with the relevant sections of BS EN 60598. In addition, they comply with the requirements of European Directive 89/336/EEC and carry the CE mark. Each and every fitting undergoes stringent testing in excess of that required under the standard, to ensure that any possibility of luminaires arriving on site in anything other than full working order is kept to an absolute minimum.
